In the immortal words of Noddy Holder: “It’s Christmas!”

And don’t we know it! After what has been an extraordinarily long term, it hopefully now feels like the end is in sight and, over the course of the next few days, we hope that you are able to enjoy many of the wonderful events that accompany this time of year, from Christmas Dinners to Secret Santas, followed by at least a few well-earned days’ rest.

The last two terms have certainly been eventful, with the introduction of the new Ofsted Inspection Framework giving all of us lots to think about. We’ve been really exploring the way that we teach children to read both at the earliest stages and further through the school, and have recently been out attending some of Pie Corbett’s conferences on Talk for Reading (further information here). We’re interested to know whether this is something you’re working on in school, and whether the teaching of reading is something you’d be interested in seeing here – please do get in touch if you’re interested in requesting specific (or additional) sessions beyond what’s already on offer in our training programme.

You can access our full programme of Talk for Writing training here for the remainder of this academic year, and next up is our popular ‘Talk for Writing in the Early Years’ taster morning on Tuesday 14th January 2020 9:15-12:30. Are you interested in developing Talk for Writing in an Early Years setting? This half-day course is ideal for practitioners who primarily teach or lead in the Foundation stage year group. There will be the opportunity to explore the power of Talk for Writing through classroom observation and discussion with Early Years practitioners.
You can book your place on the above session by contacting the Talk for Writing project team directly at tforw@sandgate.kent.sch.uk or through our training contact page here.

Wishing you all the very best for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us here at Sandgate!
